Lawsuit: Comcast makes 900,000 calls to “Do not call” registery

Comcast made more than 900,000 telemarketing calls to people on the Do Not Call registry, violating the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act, prosecutors say in Philadelphia Federal Court.  A similar action was filed earlier in Los Angeles Federal Court.

“Do not call” violators must pay $1.2 million

“All in One Vacation Club” called consumers on the “Do not call” registry despite the fact that consumers hadn’t a relationship with the company nor did they solicit them for information about their services.  Interestingly, many of the calls were to consumers who had filled out sweepstake forms that contained waivers to the “Do not call” registry in fine print.  But the court ruled that consumers wouldn’t have the expectation from reading these forms that they would be solicited by these companies.
