“In an unprecedented effort to crack down on self-serving edits, the Wikipedia supreme court has banned contributions from all IP addresses owned or operated by the Church of Scientology and its associates.
Closing out the longest-running court case in Wikiland history, the site’s Arbitration Committee voted 10 to 0 (with one abstention) in favor of the move, which takes effect immediately.”

Because Wiki deals in fact, and Scientology deals in manipulation. This sets an excellent precedent. It says that Wiki has a right to block spammers, posers and bullshit artists from manipulating the information on the site, because the purpose of Wiki is to provide true and accurate information to people, and to allow people with particular knowledge to contribute, thereby extending the knowledge base. Craigslist should follow suit and start banning all IP addresses, for example, that originate from known Nigerian spam and fishing operations, who are actively destroying the site’s credibility.
