IBM’s social networking policy? “go for it”

According to this post, IBM has a social networking policy but its written by employees and doesn’t put restrictions on employees use of social networking during business hours.

Here is a link to their social networking policy and rather than a document that protects, shields, restricts social networking, its a document that teaches, guides and informs employees about their use of social networking.

IBM doesn’t have a corporate blog or Twitter account but instead lets their employees express and spread IBM’s values far and wide.  Maybe this isn’t a model for every organization but it is a model to keep in mind when considering how best to utilize social networking.

And, importantly, it is a strategic business decision NOT a fearful reaction to new technologies.
