Its 3am – do you know where your PII is?

Personally Identifiable Information is one of the new acronyms that will soon go mainstream if it hasn’t already.  Examples of high risk PIIs are social security numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers and the like.  Lower risk examples of PII also include names, phone numbers, email address as well but obviously clustering even low-risk PII can up the risk ante.

Here is a good post on exactly how complicated it is managing this kind of information for organizations collecting this information in the age of Google Buzz, Facebook “Like” buttons, and all the other ways that innocent seeming personal information is now posing security risks.
