Senate to tackle Chinese drywall manufacturers

“A top Mobile developer will testify before Congress Tuesday regarding building material that his company claims has damaged dozens of houses.

Chuck Stefan, vice president of The Mitchell Company, Inc., claims that Chinese drywall his company used in 36 houses in Prichard and 12 houses in Pensacola is defective.

Stefan is set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts as it debates lawsuits against foreign manufacturers.

Steve Nicholas, a lawyer for the Mobile firm Cunningham Bounds LLC, which is representing Mitchell, said Stefan will argue that U.S. firms should be able to pass on liability to overseas manufacturers, that the process for serving legal papers on overseas parties should be simplified, and that foreign firms should be required to put their name on products sent to the United States.”
